We love finding local small businesses that make it easier for families to choose high-quality, safer options for their kids and chick & bee kids is a wonderful example right here in Northern Westchester.
Located in the hamlet of Cross River, chick & bee kids is a thoughtfully curated children’s boutique focused on organic clothing and non-toxic toys for babies, kids, and their caregivers. While I don’t personally know the owner, Lisa, it’s clear we share a commitment to supporting local, prioritizing children’s well-being, and making more mindful choices feel approachable rather than overwhelming. The shop brings together brands that reflect care for health, sustainability, and responsible production—without sacrificing style or accessibility.
In addition to clothing, chick & bee kids offers a selection of developmentally supportive, child-safe toys designed to encourage creativity and play. With an emphasis on transparency and ethical practices, this is a spot families can feel good about supporting—both for what they bring home and the values behind it.
You can visit chick & bee kids at 792 Route 35, Cross River, NY, shop online anytime, or stop by during store hours:
- Tuesday–Friday: 10am–3pm
- Saturday: 11am–4pm
What is the story behind your business? How did you get started?
I've always had a soft spot for children's clothing and design. My education is in fashion design from FIT, and out of college I briefly worked in the film and television industry. With the birth of my 2 kids and a move out of Brooklyn, I was able to explore other artistic avenues. Designing for a local Westchester-based children's wear brand helped me expand my knowledge of the market outside of the city. I have come to appreciate quality design and a more ethical, sustainable approach. I hope to offer affordable options to my customers that they will cherish and feel good about!
What are some fun facts about you or your business?
My sister has called me "Chick-a-bee" since we were little. Me naming the store after this little nickname plays homage to my younger self, honoring and making her proud. I am proud to live in Northern Westchester, among the fresh air and trees!
What does your business offer its' customers?
The store offers a multi-brand experience. I carefully research and select brands that adhere to the following criteria: Utilize organic, fair trade certified cotton, merino wool, or all-natural materials, any synthetic material must be 100% recycled content, ensure that the dyes used are non-toxic, and produce goods in an ethical manner. You can trust what you buy will be safe for your family and home.
What are you most proud of?
That I built something beautiful amid one of the hardest times of my life.
