Over the years, I’ve had the joy of getting to know Jillian Di Bari, founder and owner of Project Indigo Studios in Armonk, and it’s impossible not to see the heart that shines through in everything she does. Project Indigo Studios isn’t just a place for art and creativity, it’s a reflection of Jillian herself: thoughtful, inclusive, and endlessly imaginative.
She was one of the very first businesses to get certified by the Inclusive Initiative, driven by a desire to create the kind of space she would have loved as a kid, a place where everyone feels seen, welcome, and free to create.
Project Indigo brings people together through art, play, and connection. Jillian gives back constantly, builds community with intention, and creates some of the most innovative parties and classes around. She’s made it a true safe space for kids to grow. Many who started as little ones and now come back year after year, continuing their creative journey with her.
Jillian is a wonder of a person, and her work is just as special. I can’t recommend Project Indigo Studios enough. If you’re signing up for a class, planning a birthday, or just curious about the magic happening there, it’s well worth experiencing for yourself. I’m so happy to formally share more about her and this incredible space here. It's long overdue!
What is the story behind your business? How did you get started?
The story behind Project Indigo Art Studios begins right here in Armonk. As a Byram Hills alum, I grew up in this town always wishing there were more creative opportunities—especially after-school art programs—for kids like me who thrived in the arts. I went on to earn my BFA from SUNY Purchase, and after graduating, I began teaching art out of my home, working with stay-at-home kids and offering small after-school classes.
When the pandemic hit, I pivoted to outdoor and virtual art classes to stay connected with families and continue creating together. Throughout it all, my dream remained the same: to open an art studio in Armonk that offered the kind of imaginative, supportive space I always wished existed when I was younger.
What started as small classes quickly grew into something much bigger—a vibrant, inclusive, and nurturing art community where creativity thrives. Project Indigo is more than just a studio; it’s a place where kids and adults alike can feel seen, supported, and inspired to make art on their own terms.
What are some fun facts about you or your business?
Project Indigo has a few unique and meaningful full-circle moments. Several of the assistants who support our classes and parties were once my very first students—some started with me during my early days teaching from home and throughout the pandemic. It’s incredibly rewarding to now see them return as teens to help lead and inspire the next generation of young artists.
Another fun detail: our studio manager is my mom, Ms. Darci, who many families know and adore.
One of the most special experiences has been collaborating with a former art teacher of mine, Mrs. Bergelson, from Byram Hills—one of the first people who originally inspired and nurtured my love for art. It’s a privilege to now work alongside those who helped shape my path.
What does your business offer its' customers?
Project Indigo Studios is Armonk’s one-stop destination for all things art and creativity—and we’re just getting started.
We offer a wide range of classes for all ages, from sensory-based art for babies (6–18 months) to fine arts instruction for tweens and teens. Our Craft & Create classes focus on exploration, building, painting, and mixed media, with an emphasis on process over perfection—helping kids enjoy the act of making rather than just the finished product.
In addition to weekly classes, we specialize in custom birthday parties both in-studio and off-site, offering engaging sensory and art experiences tailored to each child.
We also host a variety of community events and adult workshops, including paint nights, candle painting, paint pouring, and creative gatherings like paint & sips. We've collaborated with local PTAs and organizations to host fundraisers and awareness events, supporting causes like wildfire relief and the Children’s Cancer Association at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital.
What truly sets us apart is our commitment to collaboration and growth. We love partnering with local businesses and creatives to bring new experiences to the community. From upcoming workshops in mindfulness, cooking, mixology, clay sculpting, and adult fine arts, we’re constantly evolving and expanding.
At Project Indigo, our mission is to continue growing as a vibrant, inclusive creative space—one that celebrates connection, community, and the joy of self-expression for all ages.
What are you most proud of?
What I’m most proud of is the strong sense of community we’ve cultivated at Project Indigo. Over time, many families become long-term clients and build lasting relationships with us—and that sense of connection is what truly sets our studio apart. It doesn’t feel transactional; it feels personal, meaningful, and welcoming.
We take time to get to know every child by name, understand their unique needs, and support them as individuals. As a neurodivergent business owner, I know how important it is to create an environment where all types of learners feel comfortable and empowered. Creativity should never be stressful or forced—it should be joyful, accessible, and authentic.
Hearing parents share that their children feel seen, supported, and truly thrive in our space is what makes me most proud.
Project Indigo is more than just an art studio—it’s a creative home for the Armonk community. As a local artist and educator, I’m passionate about creating a space where kids and adults alike can express themselves freely, connect with others, and feel truly welcome. We’re so excited to continue growing, collaborating, and dreaming up new ways to bring more creativity into people’s lives. Thank you for being part of it!
