Did you know that you can visit local museums for free? Visits to the Katonah Museum of Art, the Westchester Children’s Museum, the Greenburgh Nature Center, and the Hudson River Museum might be a free outing for your family courtesy of your library card! Some libraries even have passes to museums in New York City like the American Museum of Natural History, the Intrepid Museum, and the Museum of Modern Art. Your local library might also have a NYS Empire Pass which includes free admission and parking to state parks like Rockefeller State Park, Bear Mountain State Park, and Jones Beach!
 | Each Westchester library either lends physical passes that you can borrow from the circulation desk or an online reservation system where you can book spots for your family in advance. If your library has physical passes that you need to pick up, we recommend visiting the library the day before you’d like to visit the museum. It’s also important to review the library’s lending policy for museum passes - they’re often shorter than taking out a book and can come with larger late fines! |
Their websites have lots of great information including a list of museums, the number of people the pass includes and their return policies. Some websites even allow you to reserve your spot ahead of time without the additional step of visiting the library’s circulation desk!
